TANJUNG REDEB – The Berau Regency Culture and Tourism Agency (Disbudpar) is finalizing preparations for the Berau Ethno Carnival 2026, scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The event is being held as part of the celebrations marking the 73rd anniversary of Berau Regency and the 216th anniversary of Tanjung Redeb City.
A total of 42 groups are confirmed to participate in the cultural event, showcasing creativity and the rich cultural diversity of Berau.
Head of Berau Disbudpar Yudha Budisantosa said preparations had been carried out, including a technical meeting with all participating groups.
“We have already held a technical meeting with the participants. All regulations, criteria, and technical aspects of the event have been explained,” Yudha said.
According to Yudha, the participants come from various elements of society, including regional government agencies (OPD), community associations, and one student group.
The participants have been briefed on the regulations and technical requirements to ensure their performances meet the established criteria.
Yudha said the Berau Ethno Carnival is expected to be more than just part of the anniversary celebrations.
It is also intended to provide a platform for communities to showcase Berau’s cultural diversity through their creativity.
“The Berau Ethno Carnival is expected to be part of the anniversary celebrations while also providing an opportunity for various groups to showcase their cultural heritage through their own creativity,” he said.
Organizers Remain Optimistic About the Event
Disbudpar Berau remains optimistic that the Berau Ethno Carnival will proceed as scheduled, despite concerns over haze conditions that had previously affected several activities in the area.
Yudha pointed to the successful and orderly implementation of the Berau Regent Independence Run (BBIR) as an indication that outdoor activities could continue under controlled conditions.
The organizing committee has also secured the necessary recommendation for the event.
“We are optimistic that the situation will improve, as demonstrated by the BBIR event recently. We have also obtained the necessary recommendation,” he said.
He added that weather conditions would remain one of the committee’s considerations. If conditions remain stable or improve, the entire series of activities is targeted for completion before noon.
“If the weather remains stable or improves, God willing, there should be no problems, as we are planning to conduct the activities from morning until before noon,” Yudha concluded (*).
